"The River Bank" is chapter one of THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS by Kenneth Grahame. This classic adventure book features stories about the lovable characters Mole, Rat, Toad and Badger. The real Christopher Robin of the Winnie the Pooh stories said that in his family this was "a book that we all greatly loved and admired and read aloud or alone, over and over and over...."
Kenneth Grahame and his wife Elspeth, took a long vacation leaving their 7-year-old son Alastair at home with his nanny. Alastair asked his dad to continue to tell him bedtime stories by mail. Those bedtime stories about four animal friends were so much fun that the author's wife encouraged him to release it as a storybook, and THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS was born. You can read along with the entire book here at the Internet Archive.
